Not likely! If you have not opened an incident (ticket for Support) with Microsoft, they do not contact you. If you received a phone call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft or Windows, DO NOT give them any information, personal or financial. They are part of a world-wide SCAM.

I want to begin by saying logmein123.com is NOT associated with thse scammers in any way! http://www.logmein.com is a REPUTABLE company that I use on a regular basis to offer remote support my customers. Using our Virtual Housecall service, most issues can be resolved without you needing to disconnect your computer and bring it to us, or us having to come to you. It upsets me that these bad guys are tarnishing the reputation logmein.com. Contrary to http://mtaulty.com/CommunityServer/blogs/mike_taultys_blog/archive/2011/01/26/hello-hello-fake-microsoft-virus-phone-calls-logmein123-com.aspx, what this guy says, there is no "malware lurking" behind logmein123.com! For more information on our remote assistance service and how it can help you, check it out by using the Virtual Housecall link at the top of all of our webpages.

The phone calls originate from call centers in Kolkata, India. The caller claims to be from Microsoft or Windows, saying they are calling on behalf of your internet service provider, and they have gotten reports of viruses coming from your computer. They will guide you though opening up the Event Viewer in Windows, that even on a good day, is filled with errors, then saying this is indicitive of virus activity. This is totally untrue. I have had a few different reports from some of my customers that they try to sell them some kind of software maintenance agreement or even a new computer. They could be trying to install some kind of malware or spyware on your computer.

Bottom line is, DO NOT give them any personal information, financial or otherwise. It is a SCAM, and do not be taken in! Contact us IMMEDIATELY if you have given these scammers remote access to your computer so we can check it out and make sure they have done you no harm.
